Skin and Allergy Care
Do you have an itchy dog or cat?
There are many skin diseases that affect dogs and cats, including allergies. These skin conditions can only be diagnosed after examination and further diagnostic testing. For example, atopic dermatitis (an itchy skin disease of both dogs and cats) can occur as a result of an allergic reaction when a pet inhales airborne substances (pollen, mold or house dust) or eats a substance to which they are sensitive. The allergic reaction causes the pet to itch, resulting in rubbing, licking, biting or scratching.
The itching may be localized to certain areas or may be over their entire body. Usually your pet’s feet, face, ears, armpits and front legs are affected. If your pet has a flea allergy, their rump, tail, groin and thighs are usually affected.
If your pet is itching, scratching or suffering from alopecia (hair loss) or other skin conditions, please give us a call. We will thoroughly examine your pet and discuss further diagnostic testing and treatment options with you.
